Ativan is not recommended for persons suffering from contradictions like acute intoxication, severe respiratory failure, allergy or hypersensitivity, sleep apnea, pregnancy and breast feeding, ataxia, acute narrow angle glaucoma and myasthenia gravis due to ativan side effects that may be brought and amplified by the said drug that may cause permanent damage, birth defects, severe respiratory illnesses, psychomotor dysfunction, comatose and even death.

Date rape drug
In the South East Asia Region, Ativan is used as a date rape drug. Various syndicates operating in that area also use the drug to sedate travelers and tourist to rob them of their belongings. In the Philippines, Ativan has been regulated and monitored. Stricter laws were passed on the use, distribution and marketing of the said drug in the country. Furthermore, the country has its own task force against the illegal use and distribution of the product. The ativan side effects works best with their intentions.
